ADA - The Ohio Northern men's soccer team extended its winning streak to seven games as they defeated Otterbein 2-0 in the annual Red Card Cancer game Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve their record to 12-3-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals fall to 6-5-2, 1-2-1.
Sophomore J.J. Fortner led the Polar Bear offense as he posted his fourth career goal and added an assist on the evening.
Junior Matt Kinkopf got Northern on the board first as he took a pass from Fortner and beat the Otterbein keeper in the 51st minute to give Ohio Northern the 1-0 lead early in the second half.
The Polar Bears would add an insurance goal in the 79th minute as Fortner received a pass from junior Austin Horton and beat the goalkeeper from inside the 18 to seal the 2-0 victory.
Sophomore Dean McNeil earned the victory for Ohio Northern in the goal as he posted his 10th career shutout to tie former Polar Bear David Knapp for fifth all-time in Polar Bear history.
Northern outshot the Cardinals 24-11 on the evening and edged them in corner kicks by an 8-3 margin.
Northern will return to action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Columbus to take on Capital at 2 pm.
