WILMINGTON — Junior David Janusz and sophomore J.J. Fortner each scored two goals to lead Ohio Northern to a 5-2 men's soccer victory at Wilmington Tuesday night at Gilhart Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-3-0 overall and are 2-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference after posting their fifth consecutive victory. The Quakers fall to 3-9-0, 0-2-0.
Janusz notched his fourth goal of the season just 7:45 into the match to stake ONU to an early 1-0 lead.
Fortner gave ONU a 2-0 lead with a goal 7:48 into the second half.
Wilmington pulled within 2-1 with a goal by Nick Toney at the 72:40 mark that sparked a five-goal flurry in just 8 minutes and 42 seconds.
Junior Tommy Troy scored off an assist from Janusz 2:27 later to put ONU up 3-1.
It took Janusz just 33 seconds to score again, increasing the Polar Bear lead to 4-1 with 14:20 left in the match.
Grady garrison scored 1:46 later to pull the Quakers within 4-2 and give their hosts hope of a comeback.
But Fortner answered at the 81:22 mark off an assist from junior Matt Kinkopf to extend the Ohio Northern advantage to 5-2.
ONU out shot WC 20-8 and had nine corner kicks to just one for the Quakers.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday night with a 7 pm home match with Mount Union at Kerscher Stadium.
