ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 3-2 victory Tuesday afternoon at the Soccer Fields on the campus of Olivet College, Mich.
Ohio Northern improved their record to 1-0-0 on the season, while Olivet fell to 0-1-0.
Junior David Janusz led the Polar Bears in the contest recording two goals within 1:44 of each other to secure the 3-2 victory.
Olivet struck first in the contest before ONU junior Patrick Sabol was able to connect on an assist from sophomore Chris Garbig to tie the game at 1-1.
The Comets were able to capitalize once more in the first half following a free kick that put Olivet back on top 2-1 at the half.
Janusz and the Polar Bears dominated the second half as the junior connected on a penalty kick tieing the score at 2-2.
Minutes later Janusz found the back of the net once more to give ONU its first lead of the contest and secure the 3-2 victory.
Ohio Northern out shot Olivet in the contest 17-11, while putting nine of its shots on goal.
Sophomore Dean McNeil earned the win in goal for ONU recording seven saves and improved his record to 1-0-0 on the season.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at 1 pm as they travel to Wheaton, Mass.
