ADA – The No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer team shutout the John Carroll Blue Streaks by a 2-0 score in an OAC match Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears improve their record to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks fall to 8-6-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the OAC.
The game was scoreless in the first half due to excellent goalkeeping.
Senior Mac Church made a fully extended diving save in the 29th minute to keep John Carroll off the scoreboard.
Coming out of halftime, freshman Keegan Ross took a pass from junior Jeremy Barnes and senior Austin Windsor and put it in the net for his 11th goal of the season in the 48th minute.
Senior Chris Matejka made the score 2-0 in the 74th minute when he put a penalty kick past the keeper for his fifth goal of the season.
Church made four saves in the game, three in the first half, and improved his record to 16-2. Blue Streak goalie Carl Contrascier made one save and falls to 8-6-2.
"This win was a great way to celebrate our seniors on Senior Day," said head coach Brent Ridenour. "Mac played great and single-handedly kept us in the game. John Carroll played very tough and I'm proud of the way we came out and played in the second half."
ONU has now not given up a goal in an amazing 675 minutes and 10 seconds.
The Polar Bears outshot the Blue Streaks nine to six and took four shots on goal compated to three for JCU.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Wilmington at 4 pm at the ONU Soccer Field.
