Dobkins and Bascom named D3Soccer.com All-Americans; two of six named All-Ohio by OCSA
ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team continues to be rewarded for its hard work throughout the 2011 season, this time by D3Soccer.com and the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.
Senior Cory Dobkins and junior Nate Bascom were named 2011 D3Soccer.com All-America Second Team.
Dobkins started in all of his 23 game appearances at midfielder, recording 15 points on four goals and seven assists. He earned his share of accolades this season, taking home NSCAA All-America, NSCAA First Team All-Great Lakes Region and OAC Midfielder of the Year laurels.
Bascom started in all 24 of his game appearances as a forward and led the team and the conference in points (41) and goals (16) and was tied for first in assists at nine.
He, too, earned his share of awards, being named OAC Forward of the Year, First Team All-OAC and CoSIDA Academic All-American. Bascom was also recently named OAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month for January.
Dobkins and Bascom join four others as OCSA All-Ohio Selections. The two, along with junior Mac Church were named First Team All-Ohio, while senior Abrim Mueller, and juniors Austin Windsor and Cameron Johnson were named Second Team All-Ohio.
Church started in every game at keeper for Northern for the third consecutive season. He posted a program-best 14 shutouts and an OAC-best 0.76 goals-against average. Church was also named Second Team All-OAC and NSCAA All-Region this season.
Mueller started in all 25 games at defender, anchoring a Polar Bear defense that kept opponents to just 19 goals this season. He also recorded 13 points on three goals and seven assists.
His efforts this season earned him First Team All-OAC and All-Great Lakes Region laurels.
Windsor also started in all 25 contests at defender this season, even posting seven points on two goals and three assists. He was a member of a stifling defense that recorded 15 shutouts.
Adding to the team's many awards this season, Windsor was named Second Team All-OAC and Academic All-District 7 by CoSIDA.
Johnson started in every game this season at midfielder, finishing second on the team and third in the OAC with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists.
He also earned his third career All-OAC award this season as a First Team selection and made a return appearance as NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region.
The Polar Bears finished the season as OAC Regular Season and Tournament champions, and made a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. Their season concluded with a 3-2 loss in the Sweet 16 game to national champion Ohio Wesleyan.
