NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Manchester (Ind.).
Northern, ranked No. 16 in the D3soccer.com national poll, moves to 9-2-2 overall as the team resumes its OAC schedule Saturday afternoon at home against Capital.
Meanwhile, the Spartans fall to 3-7-1 overall.
Sophomore Jeremy Barnes put the first Polar Bear goal on the board unassisted in the 36th minute, scoring his fourth goal of the season. Junior Chris Matejka also scored an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute, notching his second goal of the year.
Senior Austin Windsor found sophomore Michael Grossnickle for Northern's final goal of they day in the 82nd minute. The score was a first for both players, as Windsor recorded his first assist, while Grossnickle recorded his first goal.
Northern held the advantage in shots (16-11) and in corner kicks (6-0). Junior goalkeeper Mac Church recorded his sixth shutout of the year and also recorded eight saves.
The Polar Bears game time against the Crusaders is set for 1 p.m. The team will also participate in the "Kicks for a Cause" fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.
