ADA — Senior Ben Gawronski (Dublin/Scioto) scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 15-6 victory over Mount Union in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on a wet Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The third-seeded Polar Bears improve to 12-4 on the season and will move on to the semifinals on Wednesday night at second-seeded John Carroll.
The sixth-seeded Purple Raiders end their season at 8-8.
Gawronski scored two of his goals in the first quarter as Ohio Northern raced to a 6-2 lead.
His third goal came just 1:33 left in the half as the Polar Bears led 9-3 at intermission.
Gawronski's final goal capped a three-score run that extended the lead to 14-5 with 9:49 left in the game.
Freshman Caleb Bennett (New Market, Md./Linganore) wrapped up his second career hat trick with the final goal of the match with 1:53 to go.
Sophomore Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) had a team-best six points on two goals and four assists for ONU.
Junior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) (12-4) registered five saves on 11 shots in goal to earn the victory.
Ohio Northern out-shot Mount Union 54-21 and won the ground ball battle 43-15.
The game was delayed with 12:34 left in the fourth quarter for 41 minutes due to a passing thunderstorm.
