Men's Lacrosse celebrates Senior Day with 16-10 victory over Capital

ADA — Ohio Northern pulled away with a 6-goal fourth quarter to post a 16-10 men's lacrosse victory over Capital on a beautiful Senior Day afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
With the victory, the Polar Bears (11-3 overall, 7-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) stay in the hunt for the OAC Regular Season title and have clinched a home game in the 6-team OAC Tournament April 30-May 7.
Northern now sits one game behind league-leading Baldwin Wallace (8-0) and will face the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday in Berea with a share of the crown on the line.
The Crusaders fall to 7-8, 4-4.
ONU honored the program's 12 seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Ohio Northern scored three goals in a span of just 11 seconds late in the first half to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 halftime lead.
Junior Ryan McClure (Mentor) started the flurry when he scored with 1:48 left in the half to get ONU within 4-3.
Sophomore Chad Calderwood (West Linn, Ore./Episcopal) won the ensuing faceoff, went straight to the goal and scored five seconds later to tie the game at 4-4 with 1:43 left on the clock.
Calderwood won the next faceoff as well and it took six seconds for him to attack the net and find sophomore Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) for a point-blank goal with 1:37 left in the half.
Each team scored five times in the third period and Northern clung to a 10-9 lead entering the final 15 minutes.
Leading 12-10, the Polar Bears put the game away with four consecutive goals in the final 6:06 of the game.
Sophomore John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) finished with five points with a four-goal hat trick and an assist to lead the ONU offense.
McClure posted his first career hat trick with three goals.
Sophomore Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had seven saves in goal to pick up the win.
Ohio Northern out-shot Capital 44-26 and had 38 ground balls to 29 for the visitors.
