ADA — Sophomore Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) tied his career high with four goals as the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team stayed on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference standings with a 9-4 victory over Marietta on a snowy Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears extend their winning streak to six games and improve to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 2-10, 0-5.
Northern led 4-0 at halftime and 5-0 after a goal by sophomore John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) with 10:33 left in the third quarter.
After a MC goal, Michaud scored back-to-back goals just 45 seconds apart to extend the lead to 7-1 with 6:36 left in the period.
The Ohio Northern defense was outstanding all day, forcing Marietta into 31 turnovers and holding the visitors to 11-for-24 on clearing attempts.
ONU out-shot MC 54-21 and won the ground ball battle 38-29.
Junior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had six saves in goal to register the win.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday with a 1 pm contest at John Carroll.
