ADA — A strong defensive effort and a balanced offensive attack led the way for Ohio Northern to post a 10-1 men's lacrosse victory over DePauw (Ind.) on a cold Saturday afternoon in the home opener at Dial-Roberson.
The Polar Bears (2-0 overall) got goals from seven different players and points from 10 different players to improve to 6-1 all-time in home openers.
The Tigers fall to 0-2.
ONU was led in scoring by senior Ben Gawronski (Dublin/Scioto) and freshman Caleb Bennett (New Market, Md./Liganore) with three points each.
Gawronski had two goals and an assist and Bennett had a goal and two assists.
Sophomores John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) and Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) also had 2 goals apiece.
Sophomore Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) allowed no goals ands had two saves to earn his second win of the season, playing just the first 30 minutes.
Northern out-shot DePauw 21-5 and led 7-0 at halftime. The lead was 8-0 after three quarters and DU's only goal came off a turnover in a man-up opportunity with 10:04 left in the game.
ONU was 3-for-7 with a man advantage.
Ohio Northern returns to action Saturday with a home contest against Centre (Ky.) at 1 p.m. at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
