ADA — Senior Joe O'Connell (Fishers, Ind.) scored a season-high six goals to lead Ohio Northern in a 16-12 loss at Baldwin Wallace in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday night at Lou Groza Stadium.
The fourth-seeded Polar Bears end their season with an 8-6 record, while the top-seeded Yellow Jackets (13-1) will host second-seeded John Carroll in the finals on Saturday.
BW led 16-8 with 5:45 left in the game before Ohio Northern rallied.
ONU scored four goals in a span of 1:16 to get within 16-12 with 2:28 left.
Northern won the ensuing faceoff and got five shots off in the next minute, but none were able to find the back of the net and BW was able to run out the clock and hold on for the victory.
Sophomore Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had 13 saves in goal for Northern.
BW got off to a quick start and led 5-2 after the first period and 10-3 at halftime.
The game was played at Berea-Midpark High School as BW's Finnie Stadium was being set up for graduation.
Ohio Northern out-shot Baldwin Wallace 50-36 and won 18 of the 32 faceoffs.
