ALLIANCE — Senior Anthony Pavone (Bainbridge/Kenston) and junior Cameron Marous (Brecksville) each had hat tricks to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to its eighth consecutive victory, a 12-8 decision at Mount Union on Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-1 overall and are 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders fall to 2-6, 0-2.
The victory was also the 13th consecutive road win for ONU, extending their school record.
Northern took control of the game with seven consecutive goals to open the second half.
Pavone started the run with a goal 2:09 into the half and back-to-back goals by Marous only 24 seconds apart gave ONU a 10-3 lead with 13:33 left in the game.
MtU scored three goals in a span of 2:04 to pull within 11-8 with 1:46 left in to play, but Pavone found the net for his hat trick with 37 seconds left to seal the win.
Senior Alex Pizarro (Boonsboro, Md.) had nine saves in goal and finished with a .529 save percentage.
Northern outshot Mount Union 44-30, but the Purple Raiders won the ground ball battle 39-36.
The Polar Bears will return to action with a pair of home games next week, playing Heidelberg on Wednesday at 7 pm and Muskingum on Saturday at 1 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
