BEREA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team moved into sole possession of first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with an impressive 16-4 victory at Baldwin Wallace in a battle of league unbeatens on Saturday afternoon at Finnie Stadium.
The Polar Bears extend their winning streak to a school record nine games and are now 12-1 overall and are in first place in the OAC with a 5-0 record.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 9-3, 5-1.
Junior Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) posted his school-record 15th career hat trick with three goals in the game to lead ONU.
Ten different Polar Bears notched goals in the game.
Ohio Northern took control of the game from the onset, scoring the first nine goals, to lead 9-0 with 11:25 left in the first half.
BW scored twice in the final 3:14 of the opening half to make it 9-2 at intermission.
But the Polar Bears put the game away by scoring the first seven goals of the second half to extend their lead to 16-2 with 6:11 left in the game.
Junior Anthony Pavone (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had two goals and two assists for ONU.
Juniors Peter Hardt (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge), William Peoples (Breckenridge, Colo./Summit) and Nicholas Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard) and sophomore Kevin Giles (Williamsburg, Va./Warhill) also had two goals each for Ohio Northern.
Junior Alex Pizarro (Boonsboro, Md.) had five saves in goal to pick up the win for the Polar Bears and improve to 8-1 on the season.
Ohio Northern out-shot Baldwin Wallace 44-29 and won the ground ball battle 33-24.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday in another key OAC contest when John Carroll comes to Dial-Roberson Stadium for a 1 pm game.
