Marous, Olsen net hat tricks to lead Men's Lacrosse to 14-3 victory over Heidelberg

TIFFIN — Sophomores Cameron Marous (Brecksville) and Shane Olsen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) each had hat tricks to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to its eighth straight victory as it defeated Heidelberg 14-3 on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Students Princes drop to 7-5, 1-3.
Marous tallied five goals in the win, while Olsen added four goals.
Junior Evan Corteville (Newark, N.Y.) picked up a game-high five ground balls for ONU.
Marous netted his first two goals of the contest in the first period, while junior Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) and Olsen also added goals to give ONU a 4-0 lead after one quarter.
Less than a minute into the second quarter, sophomore Patrick Moran (Austin, Tex./Bowie) tallied a goal to push the lead to 5-0.
Marous, Weese and Olsen would then score back-to-back-to-back goals before Heidelberg found the back of the net just before the intermission to cut the ONU lead to 8-1 at the half.
After Heidelberg pulled within 8-2 midway through the third quarter, Marous scored his 34th and 35th goals of the season to push the ONU lead 10-2 heading into the final period.
Olsen tacked on his second goal of the contest at the 8:44 mark of the fourth quarter, giving Northern an 11-2 lead.
The Student Princes were able to answer with a goal before sophomore Chris DiMarco (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) tallied his first goal of the afternoon and Olsen completed his hat trick with a goal at the 5:56 mark of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 13-3.
Freshman Nathan Salera (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) would score his first career goal with 4:55 remaining in the contest to seal the 14-3 victory.
Junior Alex Pizarro (Boonsboro, Md.) earned the victory in the goal for Northern, posting his eighth win of the season. Fellow junior Andrew Markell (Missouri City, Tex./Ridge Point) entered the contest in the second half to help seal the victory.
Northern will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Baldwin Wallace for a 1 p.m. contest.
