WILMINGTON — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team continued on its best start in school history with a 22-4 victory at Wilmington on Wednesday evening at Williams Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 9-1 overall and are 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 3-7, 0-3.
Junior Peter Hardt (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge), freshman Joe O'Connell (Fishers, Ind.) and sophomore Cameron Marous (Brecksville) each had hat tricks for ONU.
Hardt picked up the fourth hat trick of his career and O'Connell notched his first career hat trick.
Marous now has seven hat tricks this season and 13 in his 26-game career.
Marous also tied his own single-game record with six assists and just missed his ONU record with nine points.
He now leads the OAC 56 points, is second with 28 assists and is third with 28 goals on the year.
Northern got a pair of goals from junior Noah St. Croix (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit), Hardt and Marous to take a 4-0 lead with 10:25 gone in the first quarter.
After Wilmington got on the board at the 3:12 mark, ONU rattled off the game's next 14 goals to take an 18-1 lead with 1:24 left in the third period.
In all, 13 different ONU players scored a goal and 17 had at least one point in the game.
Junior Andrew Markell (Missouri City, Tex./Ridge Point) improved to 2-0 on the season with five gaves in 41:36 in goal.
Ohio Northern out-shot Wilmington 59-24 and had 47 ground balls to 31 for WC.
The Polar Bears will return home on Saturday for a 1 pm contest against Muskingum at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
