Sophomore Cameron Marous leads Men's Lacrosse to season-opening 25-3 victory over Calvin (Mich.)

ADA — Sophomore Cameron Marous (Brecksville) picked up where he left off a season ago, leading the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a convincing 25-3 victory over Calvin (Mich.) in its season-opener on Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 overall, while the Knights drop to 0-2.
Marous tallied a game-best four goals on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting evening and added a game-high five ground balls.
In total, 16 players scored for Northern in a balanced offensive attack.
The Polar Bears got out to a quick start as junior Anthony Pavone (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) scored the first goal of the 2018 season after receiving a pass from sophomore Kevin Giles (Williamsburg, Va./Warhill) to give ONU a quick 1-0 lead.
Marous, along with sophomore Chris DiMarco (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), junior Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby), sophomore Patrick Moran (Austin, Tex./Bowie), and sophomore Samuel Neff (Fairfax Station, Va./Trinity Christian) each scored in the first quarter.
Northern would tack on eight more goals in the second period to add to its lead and take a 14-0 lead into the break.
The Polar Bears were able to outscore the Knights 8-3 in the third period, holding a 22-3 lead after three periods of action.
In the final quarter, Northern added three insurance goals as sophomore John Mullin (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), junior Tanner Walrath (Warren/Kent Roosevelt) and freshman Cody Calvert (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) each scored.
Northern outshot Calvin 47-6 and picked up 55 ground balls to Calvin's 15.
Junior Alex Pizarro (Boonsboro, Md.) earned the victory in the goal for ONU, moving to 1-0 on the year.
Northern will return to action as it plays the second of its 3-game home stand to open the season and welcomes Kenyon to Dial-Roberson Stadium for a 5 pm contest on Tuesday evening.
