Saturday's Preview: The Polar Bears will get their third varsity season underway on Saturday with a home contest against Calvin (Mich.) ... The Polar Bears welcome back 34 lettermen and nine starters from last year's squad that went 9-7 overall and finished fifth in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 4-4 record under third-year head coach sat St. Laurent ... St. Laurent recruited 35 freshmen for the inaugural season in 2016 and 24 of those players are still in the program ... Add to that two more strong recruiting classes and it is easy to see why optimism is high in the Polar Bear camp entering 2018 ... Junior Max Weese returns after leading ONU with 39 goals a year ago ... Junior Anthony Pavone was third with 18 goals, had a team-high 27 assists and was third with 45 points ... Sophomore Cameron Marous was second on the team with 36 goals and 24 assists and led the team with 60 points ... Pavone, Marous and junior Andrew Fox were all named Second Team All-OAC ... Junior Jackson Pfister and sophomore Logan Krogman were Honorable Mention All-OAC honorees in 2017 ... Junior Alex Pizarro was 8-5 with 77 saves and an 8.03 GAA ... The Knights enter Saturday's game coming off a 21-3 loss to Carthage (Wis.) at Westfield, Ind., on Feb. 10 ... Corey Draymond, Max Foster and Austin Bontrager all scored goals for CC ... Under the direction of second-year head coach Dave Hoger, the Knights head into the 2018 season with 25 players on its roster including 11 letterwinners from last year's team that finished 5-11 overall and in seventh in the final MIAA standings ... The Knights will be led by tri-captains Ethan Brown, Michael Winkler and Noah Nedd.
