WESTERVILLE -- Sophomore Anthony Pavone picked up his sixth career hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 13-7 loss at Otterbein on Wednesday evening at Memorial Stadium.
The Polar Bears (9-6 overall, 4-3 Ohio Athletic Conference) also got goals from sophomores Peter Hardt (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge), Connor Preston (Carmel, Ind.) and Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) and freshman Cameron Marous (Brecksville).
The Cardinals (8-8, 5-2) got four goals from Connor Dziewit.
Otterbein scored the game's first four goals, until Marous found the net for ONU at the 3:34 mark of the first period, and led 6-1 after the first 15 minutes.
OU stretched the lead to 13-4 until Northern rallied in the fourth quarter.
Pavone got a man-up goal with 6:41 to go and Preston followed that with a goal 12 seconds later and it was 13-6.
Weese scored off an assist from Drew Eramo (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) with 2:32 to go to make it 13-7, but Otterbein held ONU off the board the rest of the way to hang on for the win.
Ohio Northern out-shot Otterbein 40-30 and forced OU into 24 turnovers while committing just 15.
But the Cardinals won 15-of-23 faceoffs and won the ground ball battle 28-21.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season on Saturday when they host Capital at 1 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
