Marous' career-high 5 goals lead Men's Lacrosse in 15-5 victory over Wilmington

ADA — Freshman Cameron Marous (Brecksville) scored a career-high five goals to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 15-5 victory over Wilmington on a rainy and windy evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Quakers fall to 2-8, 0-3.
Marous also added a game-high three assists for the Polar Bears.
After Wilmington jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, Northern would answer back with goals by sophomores Anthony Pavone (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) and Noah St. Croix (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) to tie the contest at 2-2 with 7:04 left in the first quarter.
Sophomore Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) answered a Wilmington goal at the 3:50 mark of the first period to tie the contest at 3-3 heading into the second quarter.
Northern would outscore the Quakers 6-0 in the second quarter as Pavone, Weese, freshman Patrick Moran (Austin, Tex./Bowie) and Marous all scored goals to give ONU a comfortable 9-3 lead heading into the intermission.
Wilmington would cut the lead to 9-5 after the third quarter as they outscored ONU 2-0 in the third period.
Marous picked up where he left off in the second quarter as he scored two of the Polar Bears next three goals.
After the sophomore scored at the 14:36 mark of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 10-5, sophomore Lucas Blaszyk (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) added a goal with 13:21 remaining in the contest to give Northern an 11-5 lead.
After another Marous goal at the 11:26 mark of the fourth quarter, freshman John Mullin (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) got into the scoring column as he found the back of the net with 10:24 left in the contest.
Sophomore Nicholas Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard) would find his brother and fellow sophomore Mitch Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard) with 7:49 remaining in the contest to team up for a goal and push the lead to 14-5.
Sophomore Drew Eramo (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) would seal the Polar Bear victory as he scored with 3:02 left in the contest and the Polar Bears went on to win 15-5.
Sophomore Alex Pizarro (Boonsboro, Md.) improved his record to 6-1 on the season as he recorded four saves for Northern.
Northern won the ground ball battle by a 46-32 margin.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday evening as they travel to New Concord to take on Muskingum at 7 pm.
