GREENSBORO, N.C. — Freshman Cameron Marous (Brecksville) posted his second career hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 12-7 loss to Guilford (N.C.) on Tuesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears fall to 1-3 on the year, while the Quakers improve to 3-2.
Marous scored a game-high three goals and added a team-best two assists to lead the Polar Bears.
Freshman Javon Smith (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) picked up four ground balls to lead Northern.
After Guilford knotted the game at 3-3 in the second quarter, Marous's third goal of the evening pushed the Polar Bear lead to 4-3 at the half.
The Quakers would score the next six goals before sophomore Nicholas Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard) scored just before the end of the third period to make the 9-5 heading into the final period.
Goals by sophomores Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) Noah St. Croix (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) to open the third quarter helped Northern pull within 9-7.
From there, Guilford used a 3-0 run to close the game and seal the 12-7 victory.
Freshman Chris DiMarco (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) was 13-of-22 on faceoffs to lead the Polar Bears.
Northern will return to action Saturday at 12 pm as they play host to Hanover (Ind.) at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
