BEREA — Freshman Anthony Pavone picked up his second consecutive hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 15-4 loss at Baldwin Wallace Saturday night at Finnie Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-5 overall and are 1-4 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, while the league-leading Yellow Jackets improve to 13-1, 5-0.
Freshman Connor Preston scored at the 5:45 mark of the first period and Pavone followed with a goal just 1:06 later to tie the score at 2-all.
Pavone scored his second goal of the game with 1:33 left in the first half to pull ONU within 6-3 at intermission.
But Baldwin Wallace, which features the nation's second-best defense, held the Polar Bears scoreless until Pavone's third goal with 39 seconds left in the game to register the win.
BW out-shot ONU 52-11 and won 19 of the game's 22 faceoffs.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday night with their final road game of the season at Wilmington.
