ADA — Freshman Anthony Pavone had a hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 13-8 loss to two-time defending league champion Otterbein on Wednesday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-4 overall and 1-3 in OAC play in their inaugural season, while the Cardinals improve to 9-5, 3-1.
Freshman Drew Eramo scored two goals and had an assist and freshmen Mitch Groves, Peter Hardt and Max Weese each had a goal and an assist for ONU.
Robbie Guiliano had four goals to lead Otterbein.
The Cardinals outscored the Polar Bears 4-0 in the second quarter to turn a 5-3 lead into a 9-3 advantage at intermission.
Northern stayed competitive throughout, outscoring Otterbein 5-4 in the second half.
ONU out-shot Otterbein 29-27 and forced 24 turnovers while committing only 15. But OU won 20-of-24 faceoffs in the game.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday night at league-leading Baldwin Wallace.
