Men's Golf finishes second of seven at Polar Bear Easter Classic

HARROD — The Ohio Northern men's golf team finished second of seven teams at the Polar Bear Easter Classic Thursday afternoon at Colonial Golfers Club.
The Polar Bears (30-28-4 overall) finished with a 319, just three strokes behind Tiffin's 316, on a day of heavy winds, which gusted to more than 30 mph throughout the day.
Senior Andrew Slusher (Covington) and junior Josh Steyer (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) led ONU by tying for third out of 49 golfers with 6-over par 78s on the par-72, 6886-yard course.
ONU freshman Andrew Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for 10th with an 81 and senior Nolan Kimberly (Zanesville) tied for 12th with an 82.
Playing as an individual, senior Jared Hernandez (Van Wert) tied for first with a 77, but lost Medalist honors on a scorecard tiebreaker.
Sophomore Jacob Brooks (New Albany) also finished tied for third with a 78 as an individual for ONU.
Tiffin's Colton Vincelette edged Hernandez for Medalist honors with his 77.
After Tiffin and ONU, Heidelberg was third with a 344, Defiance and Olivet (Mich.) tied for fourth with 348s, Northwestern Ohio was sixth with a 353 and Hiram was seventh with a 375.
The Polar Bears will return to action April 29-May 1 with the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio.
