Men's Basketball falls in exhibition contest at NCAA Division I Big East member Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Freshman Justin Chapman (Sidney/Lehman) scored 12 points, leading the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a 78-46 exhibition loss at NCAA Division I Big East member Butler on Saturday night at legendary Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Game
- Chapman scored his 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the 3-point line in 11 minutes of action off the bench.
- Ten other Polar Bears scored between 5 and 2 points in the contest.
- Northern scored the first basket of the game on a 3-pointer from junior Blake Michael (Fremont/St. Joseph Central Catholic) to lead 3-1 1:58 into the contest.
- Sophomore Will Miller (Ottoville) scored with 11:43 left in the half to pull ONU within 17-10.
- The Bulldogs would go on a 13-0 run to grab a 31-10 lead at the 7:39 mark of the half.
- BU led 45-22 at halftime.
- Ohio Northern made 19-of-55 field goal attempts for 34.5 percent, including an 8-of-33 mark from 3-point range.
- Butler was 29-of-50 shooting for 58.0 percent and made 6-of-17 three-pointers for 35.3 percent.
- The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Polar Bears 32-23.

- Ohio Northern is now 4-18 all-time against NCAA Division I schools.
- In 1996, the Polar Bears defeated Louisiana Tech 57-52 in Ruston, La.
- Other impressive victories against Division I foes include a 72-69 win over Billy Tubbs-led Oklahoma in Norman in 1980 and wins over Portland and Northern Arizona to claim the 1981 University of Pacific Christmas Tournament at Stockton, Calif.
- In 2017, Ohio Northern traveled to Toledo and dropped a hard-fought 72-62 decision after being within 66-62 with less than four minutes to play.
- Through the years, the Polar Bears have also had near misses against West Virginia (53-50), Tennessee (40-33), Toledo (56-55) and Western Michigan (74-68).
