Men's Basketball falls 89-71 at No. 6-ranked Mount Union

ALLIANCE — Ohio Northern fell 89-71 at No. 6-ranked Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Polar Bears (4-4 overall, 1-2 OAC) got a team-high 18 points from senior Landen Long (Mason) and nine points and five rebounds from senior C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick).
The Purple Raiders (7-1, 2-1) were led by Collen Gurley with 21 points.
Mount Union used an early 15-0 run to lead 22-6 six minutes into the contest.
The lead grew to as many as 45-24 when ONU ended the first half on a 7-2 run to get back within 47-31 at intermission.
An 11-2 run early in the second half drew the Polar Bears within 53-44 with 16:11 left in the game.
MtU went on an 11-2 run to extend its lead to 72-48 with 8:56 to go.
Northern made 25-of-48 field goal attempts for 52.1 percent and was 4-of-11 from three for 36.4 percent, while Mount Union was 33-of-55 from the floor for 60.0 percent and hit 5-of-12 from beyond the arc for 41.7 percent.
ONU out-rebounded MtU 29-21.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday, Dec. 17 when they host Capital at 2 pm in the first game of a men's/women's double header at the ONU Sports Center.
