Men's Basketball falls 72-57 to hosts in championship game of Wooster Classic

WOOSTER — Senior Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) scored 13 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a 72-57 loss to tournament host Wooster on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Wooster Al Van Wie Classic at Timken Gymnasium.
Senior C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds and senior Landen Long (Mason) added eight points for ONU (2-2 overall).
Scott and Napier were named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts.
The Scots (2-0) were led by Najee Hardaway with a game-high 17 points.
CW jumped to a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes, but Northern rallied with 11 straight to grab a 13-12 lead with 11:29 left in the first half.
But Wooster came right back with a 13-2 run to regain the 10-point advantage at 25-15 with 3:51 left before halftime.
The Scots opened the second half on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 42-26 2:37 into the period.
The Polar Bears got within 46-38 on a 3-pointer from freshman Will Miller (Ottoville) with 11:17 left, but Wooster would score the next 12 points to go ahead 58-38 with 8:23 remaining.
Northern was 19-of-53 from the floor for 35.8 percent and hit 6-of-26 threes for 23.1 percent. Wooster was 30-of-61 from the field for 49.2 percent and hit 8-of-24 three-pointers for 33.3 percent.
ONU won the rebounding battle 33-31.
The Polar Bears will return to action Sunday, Nov. 27 when they host Alma (Mich.) at 1 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
