Men's Basketball drops 53-52 decision to Capital on buzzer beater

ADA — Capital's David Sanford hit a 3-pointer just ahead of the buzzer to give the visiting Comets a 53-52 men's basketball victory over Ohio Northern on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-11 overall and are 2-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while CU improves to 12-8, 7-6.
Junior Michael Berner (Springboro) made one of two free throws with 23 seconds left to give ONU a 51-50 lead and junior Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) made one of two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to make it a 52-50 game.
After a pair of timeouts, Sanford took the inbounds pass at midcourt, drove to the 3-point line and hit a contested floater as the buzzer sounded.
Junior C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) had his fifth double-double of the season and the 11th of his career with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Senior Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) added 10 points for ONU.
Joe Thompson led the Comets with 11 points.
Ohio Northern used a 14-0 run, holding CU scoreless for six minutes, to take a 49-46 lead with 1:46 left in the game.
Northern made 20-of-56 field goals for 35.7 percent and was 2-of-14 from 3-point range for 14.3 percent, while Capital was 21-of-64 from the floor for 32.8 percend and mace 5-of-22 from beyond the arc for 22.7 percent.
ONU out-rebounded CU 44-42.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday at Baldwin Wallace.
