Men's Basketball falls to Wisconsin-Eau Claire in championship game of Case Western Reserve Tournament

CLEVELAND — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell to Wisconsin-Eau Claire 67-51 in the championship game of the Case Western Reserve Bill Sidlack Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (1-1 overall) were led by junior Grant Heileman (Millersport/Sheridan) with 14 points.
The BlueGolds (2-0) ended the first half on a 15-2 run to lead 36-19 at intermission. UWEC then got the first basket of the second half to go up 38-19.
A dunk by junior Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) and a layup by junior Michael Berner (Springboro) capped a 6-0 run that got the Polar Bears within 42-31 with 15:23 to play.
Eau Claire answered with a 10-2 run to extend the lead to 52-33 with 12:45 to go and the lead bounced between 16 and 21 points the rest of the way.
Carter Brooks led UWEC with a game-high 15 points.
Junior C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) had 11 points and nine rebounds and Berner added 10 points for ONU.
Berner was named to the All-Tournament Team.
ONU made 19-of-58 field goals for 32.8 percent and was 1-of-13 from 3-point range for 7.7 percent. UWEC was 29-of-64 from the floor for 45.3 percent and made 5-of-14 from 3-point range for 35.7 percent.
Eau Claire won the rebounding battle by a 40-38 margin.
The Polar Bears will return to action Nov. 16 at Manchester (Ind.)
