Junior Joey Hurless sets school record with 16 assists, leads Men's Basketball in 110-75 victory over Keystone (Pa.)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team defeated Keystone (Pa.) 110-75 Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Chuck Resler Tournament at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-1 overall, while Keystone falls to 0-3.

Junior Joey Hurless would lead the Polar Bears in the contest, breaking the ONU individual single game record for assists, the Tournament record, Tournament single game record and tied the Louis Alexander Palestra record with 16.

The ONU record of 14 was preciously held by former Polar Bear Charlie Just, set in a game against Capital during the 1974-75 season.

The junior also earned All-Tournament team honors.

With 6:06 remaining in regulation, Hurless would break the ONU individual single game record for assists as he connected with freshman Ryan Bruns.

Northern saw 13 different individuals score in the contest, five of which were in double digits.

Junior Aron Thress had a game-high 19 points, while sophomore Travis Feitshans had 16 points, junior Konnor Baker had 14 points, junior Devon Allen added 14 points and Bruns finished with 10 points.

Ohio Northern opened the contest firing on all cylinders as they jumped to a quick 10-0 lead with 17:03 to play in the first hlaf.

ONU continued to push the tempo as it extended its lead to 22-9 following a transition basket by Thress with 13:43 remaining till the break.

The Giants battled back as Tyreek Peeples hit a desperation three as time expired to pull Keystone within 53-37 at the break.

Thress scored 12 first half points, while Hurless dished out eight assists for the Polar Bears.

Keystone built on the momentum in the second half stringing together a series of runs to pull within 64-55 with 15:33 remaining in the contest.

Allen would record his fourth three of the contest with 14:22 remaining to halt the surging Giants and extend the ONU lead to 69-56.

With 6:06 remaining in regulation, Hurless would connect with Bruns to break the ONU individual single game record for assists with 15 extending the ONU lead to 96-66.

Northern would finish the contest on a 12-8 run leading to the 110-75 victory.

Keystone was led in the contest by All-Tournament team selection Khyle Diaz.

Northern returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Defiance for a double header with the women, tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
