Bio

Mike Schmitz is in his fifth season as an assistant coach at Ohio Northern and will coach the quarterbacks and serve as offensive coordinator.

Schmitz came to ONU after a 13-year stint as head football coach at Wooster, where he compiled a 74-54 record.

He was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2008 and was the Lee Tressel Ohio College Coach of the Year in 2004.

In 2004, he guided the Scots to an 11-1 record and a No. 6 national ranking.

He also served as offensive coordinator at Wooster from 1995-2000.

Prior to his 18 seasons at Wooster, Schmitz enjoyed a highly successful high school coaching career.

He was head football coach at Lexington, Medina, Archbishop Hoban and Rittman high schools from 1976-1995.

Schmitz received his bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green in 1974.

He and his wife, Peggy, an attorney and partner in the Critchfield Law Firm in Wooster, have two adult children, Joie and Stephen, who work for Under Armor in Baltimore, Maryland.
