ADA -- Junior Patrick Angle and sophomore Devon Price each had career days, but it was not enough as Baldwin Wallace downed Ohio Northern 38-17 in an Ohio Athletic Conference football game on Saturday afternoon at George Finnie Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in OAC play, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-2, 2-2.
Angle completed 28-of-47 passes for a career-high 317 yards and Price had career-highs of 10 receptions and 143 yards to lead ONU.
Baldwin Wallace used the big play, scoring three times on plays of 56 yards or more in the contest.
Senior Josh Cantrell and junior Dillon Kwiat led the ONU defense with 13 tackles each.
The Polar Bear defense also collected four interceptions on the day.
Josiah Holt ran 15 times for 184 yards and TD runs of 72, 56 and 5 yards to lead BW.
"I was proud of the way we kept battling today," ONU head coach Dean Paul said. "We gave up too many big plays early in the game and dug ourselves a hole. We kept playing hard and had a shot to get within one score in the fourth quarter, but consistency held us back. Hopefully the success we had in the fourth quarter will build some momentum and carry us forward the rest of the year."
Ohio Northern struck quickly as Angle scored on a 5-yard run just 1:22 into the game.
Freshman Cody Cox intercepted a pass on the first play of the game, setting ONU up at the BW 25-yard line.
BW tied the game at 7-7 with 5:07 left in the opening period on a 72-yard run by Holt.
Holt broke free again early in the second quarter, scoring on a 56-yard run with 13:14 left in the first half to go ahead 13-7.
BW went ahead 16-7 on a 34-yard field goal by Chris Mohler with 3:56 mleft in the first half.
Mohler tacked on a 36-yard field goal with four seconds left in the half to give BW a 19-7 advantage.
Holt scored his third touchdown of the day on a 5-yard run with 4:20 left in the third period and BW's lead was 25-7.
Sophomore Andrew DiMario pulled ONU within 25-10 with a 22-yard field goal at the 1:43 mark of the third quarter.
But the Yellow Jackets answered immediately, going 45 yards in four plays and scoring on an 8-yard run by Nolan Sordyl and it was a 31-0 game with 20 seconds left in the third.
The Polar Bears then marched 89 yards in 10 plays and scored on a 1-yard run by sophomore Justin Magazine to pull ONU within 31-17 with 12:29 left in the game.
Northern got the ball right back and drove 73 yards in 14 plays, but turned the ball over on downs at the BW 16-yard line.
BW put the game away with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Michael Slack to Kevin Johnson with 4:17 left in the game.
Northern drove inside the BW 20 yard line in each of its final four possessions, but came away with just 10 points.
BW out-gained ONU 478-405 in total offense.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday with a 1:30 pm contest against Marietta on Bill Robinson Field at Dial-Roberson Stadium as part of ONU's Homecoming Weekend.
