MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern baseball team reached the midpoint of its 40-game regular season schedule on Friday afternoon with a double header at Marietta.
MC swept the twin-bill, winning 7-4 and 12-11
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-12 overall, 0-4 OAC), Marietta (10-11 overall, 2-2 OAC).
- Venue: Pioneer Park - Marietta, Ohio.
Game 1 - L, 4-7
- The Polar Bears scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to grab a 4-3 lead.
- Sophomore Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) singled home sophomore Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) with the first run.
- Freshman Evan Russ (Westfield, Ind.) then had a 2-run single to cap the rally.
- But MC would answer with five runs in the bottom of the frame to go back on top 7-4.
- Fifth-year senior Jack Hutchins (Bright, Ind./East Central) threw six strong innings, allowing only two runs while striking out 7 for ONU.
- MC out-hit ONU 12-8.
Game 2 - L, 11-12
- Northern scored nine times in the top of the ninth to grab an 11-6 lead, only to see the Pioneers answer with six runs in the bottom of the inning to win 12-11.
- Armstrong went 4-for-6 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI to lead ONU in the nightcap.
- Armstrong hit both of his home runs in the ninth inning. He led off the frame with a solo shot and finished the rally with a grand slam.
- All eight MC batters in the btoom of the ninth reached base.
- MC out-hit ONU 14-12.
Notables
- Armstrong finished the day going 6-for-10 with 6 RBI and 3 runs scored.
- Junior Sam Sells (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) added three hits on the day.
- Ohio Northern is now 24-90 all-time against Marietta.
