Baseball explodes for 17-3 victory Trine (Ind.)

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team pounded out 16 hits and scored a season-high 17 runs in a 17-3 non-conferenc victory Trine (Ind.) on a warm and breezy Monday afternoon.

Game Highlights
- The Polar Bears set the tone quickly, scoring five times in the bottom of the first to grab a 5-0 lead.
- Junior Andrew Stechschulte (Findlay) and sophomore Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) each had 2-run singles in the frame.
- Stechschulte had a 2-run triple in the third to make it 7-0 and freshman Evan Russ (Westfield, Ind.) hit a 2-run home run in the fourth to put the home team ahead 9-0.
- After the Thunder got three runs in the top of the fifth, Northern answered with four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth and it was 15-3.
- Reed capped the ONU scoring with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.
- Stechschulte finished the game 3-for-5 with 5 RBI and Reed was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.
- Sophomore Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) was 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.
- Junior Joe Tootle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) got the win by allowing three runs in 5.0 innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the season.
- ONU out-hit TU 16-7.
