Baseball falls 8-4 to Illinois Tech on Day 3 of spring break trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Junior Sam Sells (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and freshman Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) each collected three hits as the Ohio Northern baseball team continued its spring break trip with an 8-4 loss to Illinois Tech on Monday morning.

Game Highlights
- Sells and Lapp each finished 3-for-5 while Sells added an RBI.
- The Scarlet Hawks got on the board quickly with three runs in the top of the first.
- Northern answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame as junior Joey Kennedy (Sterling Heights, Mich./Foley Catholic) scored on a ground ball by senior Logan Stevens (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) and Sells singled home sophomore Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) to make it 3-2.
- Northern took a 4-3 lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
- Kennedy hit a sac fly to score junior Elliott Veenstra (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) to tie the game at 3-3.
- Armstrong followed with a sac fly to score sophomore Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) to give the polar Bears the lead.
- Illinois Tech regained the lead with a pair of solo home runs in the third and added another solo home run in the fifth to go up 6-4.
- IT picked up a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to make it 8-4.
- The Polar Bears ere out-hit by the Scarlet Hawks 14-8.
