ADA — Sophomore Nate Webb (Liberty, Ind./Union County) and freshman Logan Stevens (Plain City/Alder) each hit home runs to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team in a 7-5 Ohio Athletic Conference loss to John Carroll on Monday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 3-8 overall and are 2-5 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks improve to 8-3, 5-2.
Webb hit a 2-home run, his second of the season, in the bottom of the second inning to pull ONU within 3-2.
Stevens hit his first career home run, a 3-run shot, in the third to give ONU a 5-4 lead.
The Blue Streaks notched three runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead at 7-5.
Sophomore Tim Knapschaefer (Maria Stein/Marion Local) came on in relief and shut the Blue Streaks down from there, blanking them without a hit over the final four innings.
Northern got runners in scoring position in four of the final five innings, but could not get a run across.
Senior Will Davis (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson) joined Webb with three hits for ONU.
The Polar Bears will return to action with a 4-game series this weekend with Mount Union. Northern will host UMU for a double header on Friday at Wander Field and the two teams will play twice on Saturday in Alliance.
