SPRINGFIELD — The Ohio Northern baseball team won for the eighth time in its last nine games with a 2-1 non-conference victory at Wittenberg on Tuesday night at Davidson Stadium.
The Polar Bears (18-14 overall) got outstanding pitching performances from juniors Troy Wagner (Liberty Township/Lakota West) and Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay) to limit the Tigers (15-13) to one run and only five base hits in the contest.
Wagner allowed only four hits and one run in 7.0 innings of work on the mound to pick up the win and improve to 3-2 on the season.
Northern got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI ground out by sophomore Matthew Burkett (Maumee) and a run-scoring single by senior Caleb Thomas (Strongsville).
Wittenberg answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 2-1.
Mohr came on in the eighth and threw two shutout innings, allowing just one base hit, to pick up his second save of the season.
The Polar Bears are scheduled to return to action on Saturday with an Ohio Athletic Conference double header against Muskingum at Wander Field.
