Baseball team to open 2019 schedule at RussMatt Tournament in central Florida

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team will open its 2019 campaign at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale, Fla., during its annual Spring Break trip in early March under eighth-year head coach Gene Stechschulte.
The Polar Bears will return to the RussMatt Invitational, whose schedule will be released in February, during Spring Break for the fourth consecutive season.
After returning home, the Polar Bears will open the northern portion of their schedule at home against area-rival Bluffton on Mar. 12.
ONU will then travel to Trine (Ind.) on March 19 and Defiance on March 21 before opening Ohio Athletic Conference play at Heidelberg on March 23.
Other non-conference contests on the road feature bouts at Denison on Mar. 26, Wittenberg on April 23 and Hiram on Apr. 28.
The Polar Bears will also host Thomas More (Ky.) on April 3 and Allegheny (Pa.) on May 5 in non-conference action.
Other home OAC double headers will feature contests with Capital on March 30, Mount Union on Apr. 6, Otterbein on Apr. 16 and Muskingum on April 27.
The Polar Bears will also compete in OAC double headers on the road at Baldwin Wallace on April 9, John Carroll on April 13, Marietta on April 20 and Wilmington on May 4.
Northern posted a 27-15 overall record, finished fourth in the OAC with an 11-7 mark and advanced to the OAC Tournament in 2018.
