ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team fell in game one 12-11 before rebounding with a 10-3 victory to split with John Carroll in a twinbill at Wander Field on a windy Friday afternoon.
The Polar Bears move to 19-8 overall and 7-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks move to 15-10, 6-4.
Junior Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesfield/John Glenn) led the way offensively as he went a combined 8-for-10 with four runs and two RBI in the two contests.
In the first contest, Blue Streaks used a 2-run home run to take an early 2-0 lead. ONU was able to get one back in the bottom of the first inning as Klinehoffer scored on a groundout to cut the lead to 2-1.
After JCU added six more runs in the top of the third and fourth innings, a solo home run from senior Dan Barna (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and a run from sophomore Phil Buckingham (Wayne/Elmwood) closed the gap to 8-3.
The Blue Streaks added three more runs before Klinehoffer, fellow junior Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) and freshman Will Davis (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson) knocked home a trio of runs to cut the lead to 11-6 after six innings.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Polar Bear offense added three more to begin a late rally, cutting the lead to 11-9.
A 2-RBI home run from senior Jason Burkett (Maumee) in the bottom of the eighth would knot the contest at 11-all.

In the second contest of the afternoon, Klinehoffer got on base early before Davis drove him home with an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the first inning to give ONU an early 1-0 lead.
John Carroll would take the lead after scoring two runs over the next two innings before ONU regained the lead with a 4-run fourth inning.
After a leadoff double from Davis, a single from Buckingham drove him home. Shortly after , Barna would score on a wild pitch and back-to-back doubles from senior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor) and Klinehoffer pushed the lead to 5-2.
JCU would add one in the top of the fifth inning before ONU added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as Davis and senior Hayden Shenefield (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) scored and pushed the lead the 7-3.
In the bottom half of the eighth inning, Northern would add three insurance runs to help seal the 10-3 victory.
