AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Junior Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) had another solid game for the Ohio Northern baseball team, as it defeated Albion (Mich.) 7-2 in the third of a 10-game slate in Auburdale, Fla. on Monday morning in the RussMatt Invitational.
The Polar Bears moved to 2-1 on the year, while the Britons dropped to 0-4.
Klinehoffer was impressive in the victory, going 4-for-5 at the plate, including a seventh inning 2-RBI home run to lead Northern. The junior added three runs scored and two RBI.
Junior DH Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) added two hits for ONU as he was 2-for-5 at the plate and recorded two runs scored and an RBI.
Sophomore Phil Buckingham (Wayne/Elmwood) also added a pair of hits for Northern.
Northern opened the contest with two runs in the first inning as Thomas had an RBI single, and a center field double from senior Jason Burkett (Maumee) drove home Thomas to push the lead to 2-0.
After Albion answered with a run in the bottom of the second, Northern tallied two more runs in the top of the third as senior Jordan Bostater (Bryan) plated two runs and Burkett drove a run home to push the lead to 5-1.
The Britons would get one more in the bottom of the fourth before a 2-run bomb from Klinehoffer in the top of the seventh ensured the 7-2 victory.
