Junior Jordan Bostater leads Baseball in 6-3, 14-3 double header sweep of John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Junior Jordan Bostater (Bryan) led the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 6-3, 14-3 double header sweep of John Carroll on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-10 overall and 2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks fall to 7-13, 1-3.
Bostater led Northern as he went 7-for-10 with seven RBI and one run for the Polar Bears in both contests.
Junior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor) added four hits for the Polar Bears and two RBI and four runs for ONU.
After junior Dan Barna (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) got on base, junior Hayden Shenefield (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) plated Barna with an RBI single up the middle to give Northern a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Shenefield helped Northern tack on two more runs in the top of the third inning as he hit a 2-RBI single to center field that scored Barna and Bostater and pushed the lead to 3-0.
After JCU got one back in the bottom of the third, Bostater hit a double to right field to plate Kasberg and extend the lead to 4-1.
The Blue Streaks would add two more runs before Barna and Shenefield added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings and sealed the 6-3 game one victory.
Senior Devin Carr (Newark/Licking Valley) earned the victory on the mound in the first contest and improved to 4-1 on the season as he went eight innings and fanned six batters, while junior T.J. Storer (Loveland/Moeller) recorded his sixth save of the season for Northern.
In the second contest, Northern got on the board early as Bostater hit an RBI single to right field to plate Kasberg and put ONU up 1-0 after the first inning.
A 3-run second inning helped Northern take a commanding 4-0 lead.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Kasberg laid down a bunt and scored freshman Phil Buckingham (Wayne/Elmwood) to push the lead to 2-0.
On the ensuing at bat, Bostater hit a 2-RBI single to center field to score Barna and junior Jason Burkett (Maumee) and extend the lead to 4-0.
Northern broke the contest open in the top of the third inning as they used a 5-run inning to take a 9-0 lead.
Shenefield, sophomore Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn), Buckingham, Burkett, Barna and Kasberg all scored in the inning.
John Carroll was able to score two runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the gap to 10-2 before Burkett and Barna scored in the top of the fourth to give ONU a 12-2 lead.
After the Blue Streaks scored one more in the bottom of the fifth inning, Bostater doubled to to right field and Kasberg was able to score on a throwing error to make the score 13-3.
Senior Jacob Lochard was able to get on base with a single to left field before advancing to second on a passed ball.
Freshman Brandon Bartlome (Sheffield Village/Lorain) would ground out to the short stop and score Lochard to seal the 14-3 victory for Northern.
Freshman Jack Schaller (Bowling Green) earned the victory on the mound for Northern and improved to 2-2 on the season.
The Polar Bears return to action Wednesday, Apr. as they host Wittenberg in a non-conference matchup at Wander Field at 4 pm.
