Late rally comes up short as Baseball drops 6-5 decision to Anderson (Ind.)

ADA -- A late rally by the Ohio Northern baseball team came up short as the Polar Bears dropped a 6-5 decision to Anderson (Ind.) on Thursday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-7 overall, while the Ravens improve to 6-7.
Junior Jason Burkett (Maumee) led Northern at the plate as he went 2-for-2 and added three RBI and one run scored.
Sophomore Caleb Thomas (Strongsville) went 3-for-5 from the plate and scored two runs, whilefreshman Phil Buckingham (Wayne/Elmwood) ent 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Anderson scored in four of the first five innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Buckingham had an RBI double and later scored on a triple by Burkett in the home half of the sixth to make it 5-2.
Burkett then tripled home two runs and scored on a single by junior Dan Barna (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) in the bottom of the eighth to bring ONU within 6-5.
Northern would threaten with a runner on third and no outs, but came up short as Anderson went on to win 6-5.
Freshman Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay) led ONU on the bump with a game-high seven strikeouts.
The Polar Bears are scheduled to open the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of their schedule on Saturday when they host Otterbein in a 1 pm doubleheader.
