CLEVELAND -- No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern dropped a 3-2 decision to Case Western Reserve Tuesday afternoon at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians.
The Polar Bears (24-8) were led at the plate by senior Jack LaMarca, who went 2-for-4.
The Spartans improve to 18-10.
Northern took a 2-1 lead in the third when junior Clay Small led off with a walk, freshman Brandon Kasberg was hit by a pitch and LaMarca singled to lead the bases with one out.
Freshman Dan McMullen singled home Small to tie the game at 1-1 and senior Dan Belliveau had an RBI ground out to score Kasberg to put Ohio Northern ahead.
But the Spartans scored unearned runs in the fourth and seventh innings to take a 3-2 lead.
Junior Ben Glischinski was solid in the start on the bump, allowing only one earned run in 6.0 innings of work.
Case out-hit ONU 8-4 in the contest.
The Polar Bears will return to action Thursday with a non-conference double header at Kalamazoo (Mich.)
