BEREA — The No. 23-ranked Ohio Northern baseball team earned a split of an Ohio Athletic Conference double header at No. 18-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday at Heritage Field.
ONU won the opener 10-8 and BW took the nightcap 4-3 in 12 innings.
The Polar Bears move to 21-6 overall and are in a 3-way tie for second place in the OAC with an 8-4 league mark, while the Yellow Jackets go to 18-7, 6-6.
Senior Dan Belliveau had a 2-run single to key a 5-run eighth inning as ONU rallied from an 8-5 deficit to win Game 1.
Belliveau finished the game 2-for-5 with 4 RBI and senior Jack LaMarca was 3-for-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI to lead Ohio Northern's 11-hit attack.
Freshman Zach Foster (2-0) earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief and freshman T.J. Storer picked up his second save of the season with two innings of hitless relief.
Northern built a 3-0 lead after two innings, only to see BW take a 7-3 lead after five innings.
Freshman Jordan Bostater scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 7-4 and Belliveau drove in freshman Hayden Shenefield in the seventh to make it an 8-5 game.
LaMarca had a 2-run double to score freshman Branden Kasberg and junior Clay Small in the eighth to get ONU within 8-7.
Freshman Dan Barna singled and stole second and scored with LaMarca on Belliveau's single to put ONU on top.
Belliveau scored an insurance run when he stole third base and came home on a throwing error by the BW catcher on the play.
In Game 2, BW scored in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3, then got the game winner in the 12th to salvage the split.
Northern got single run in each of the first three innings and led 3-2.
That's when the pitching took over, and only one run would be scored in the next eight innings.
LaMarca, Belliveau and Bostater each had two hits for the Polar Bears in the second game.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to No. 25-ranked Thomas More (Ky.) for their seventh game in the last five days.
