DEFIANCE — Seniors Dan Belliveau and Jack LaMarca each hit home run to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 15-6 victory at area-rival Defiance Wednesday afternoon at Rutter Field.
The Polar Bears (10-1 overall) run their win streak to nine games and improve to 10-1 on the season. The Yellow Jackets fall to 5-3.
Belliveau drilled a 3-run home run, his third home run of he season, and LaMarca hit a 2-run shot, his second dinger of the year.
Belliveau finished 3-for-4 with six RBI and LaMarca was 3-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI.
Freshman Dan McMullen went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Eight of ONU's nine position starters had at least one base hit as the team finished the day with 18 hits as a squad.
Sophomore Devin Carr (2-0) was outstanding on the mound, allowing just five base hits and allowing only one earned runs in eight innings of work.
Northern took the lead for good with a 4-run second frame to go ahead 5-2.
The Polar Bears were leading 7-3 in the top of the sixth when Belliveau hit his 3-run home run to make it a 10-3 game.
LaMarca's 2-run shot in the top of the seventh extended ONU's lead to 12-3.
The Polar Bears will open their home schedule on Thursday against Albion (Mich.) at 4 pm at Wander Field.
