FT. MYERS, Fla. -- Senior Dan Belliveau drilled an inside-the-park grand slam to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 21-2 victory over Finlandia (Mich.) Wednesday morning at Terry Park.
The Polar Bears (3-1 overall) pounded out 20 hits from 13 different batters and in six of their eight at-bats.
The Lions, who hail from Hancock, Mich., in the upper peninsula, fall to 0-5.
Freshman John Kopicky (1-0) struck out nine batters and allowed only one unearned run in six innings of work to earn the victory in his first career start.
"We had a good day today," ONU head coach Gene Stechschulte said. "John threw strikes and did a good job in his first career start and our offense did its job."
Northern scored three times in the bottom of the first, then added two more in the third and three more in the fourth to go up 8-1.
Belliveau's inside-the-park grand slam to deep left center field extended the ONU lead to 12-1 in the fifth and the Polar Bear reserves took over from there.
Ohio Northern will return to action Thursday at 9 am against Olivet (Mich.) at the Player Development Center fields in Ft. Myers.
