Eltzroth, Allen each record three hits as Baseball tops Mt. St. Joseph 9-2

CINCINNATI -- Sophomore Nick Eltzroth and sophomore Reed Allen each had three hit games, as the Ohio Northern baseball team topped Mount Saint Joseph 9-2 on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears improve to 24-12 on the season, while the Panthers drop to 12-22-1.
Eltzroth finished the game 3-for-6 with two runs and a RBI, while Allen went 3-for-5 with a RBI.
Northern jumped on the board in the second on a RBI groundout by sophomore Andy Lubonovic that scored sophomore Clay Small.
The Polar Bears added a run in the third and the fourth on errors, to push their lead to 3-0.
The Panthers scored in the bottom of the fourth, cutting ONU's lead to 3-1.
In the fifth, Small singled in Eltzorth to make it 4-1. Small would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Northern added another run in the sixth on a RBI single from Eltzroth that scored junior Jack LaMarca.
The Panthers added a run in the seventh on a RBI groundout, to make the score 6-2 in favor of ONU.
Senior Matt Magni and Allen each had RBI hits in the eighth inning and junior Brady Foley closed out the scoring in the ninth when he crossed the plate on a throwing error.
Senior Tyler Deitering (3-1), gave up two runs over seven innings while striking out five.
Senior Chad Smith pitched the final two innings, without surrendering a hit and striking out three.
Ohio Northern will travel to take on Denison on Thursday in a double header that begins at 5 pm.
