ADA -- Senior Cory Martin and freshman Grant Wilson each homered to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a double header split with Otterbein on Saturday afternoon at Wander Field.
The Polar Bears are 10-12 on the season and 2-4 in OAC play, while Otterbein is now 17-6, 4-2.
ONU was victorious in Game 1 by a 7-4 score and dropped Game 2, 10-5.
In Game 1, ONU struck first in the second inning.
Senior Kevin Obarski opened the inning with a double to left.
After an out, Martin drilled a two run homer over the centerfield fence to put the Polar Bears on top 2-0.
The Cardinals responded in the third, with a double that plated two runs and tied the game at 2-2.
ONU took the lead back in its half of the fifth inning.
Freshman Cody Meyer led off the inning with a single to center.
After an out, Wilson drilled a home run over the rightfield fence, to put ONU up 4-2.
Freshman Nick Eltzroth followed with a single and moved to second on an error.
Obarski would then come up and rip a ball to short, that bounced into the outfield, scoring Eltzroth and extending the Polar Bears lead to 5-2.
Northern added two more runs in the sixth inning, pushing its lead to 7-2.
Martin led off the inning with a triple to left center.
Freshman Alex Crabtree followed with a single to right, extending the ONU lead to 6-2.
Meyer came up and singled to right, moving Crabtree over to third.
Wilson would come up and hit into a fielders choice, scoring Crabtree to make it 7-2.
The Cardinals mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring two runs.
But senior Austin Price struck out Tyler Rose with the bases loaded for the save and the 7-4 Polar Bear victory.
Eltzroth (3-1) went six innings and struck out five.
Martin finished game going 3-for-3 with two RBI's, while Wilson was 2-for-4 with three RBI's.
In the second game, ONU scored first on an RBI double to right center from sophomore Dan Belliveau.
Otterbein answered back in the fourth, scoring twice to take the lead, 2-1.
ONU came right back, getting a leadoff single from sophomore Jack LaMarca, who then advanced to third on a an error by the right fielder.
Martin followed with a single in the hole between shortstop and third base to tie the game at 2-2.
Eltzroth drew a bases loaded walk to put the Polar Bears back on top 3-2.
Northern tacked on another run in the fifth inning, to extend its lead to 4-2.
Obarksi led off with a triple and scored on a groundout from LaMarca.
The Cardinals answered with two runs in the sixth to tie the game back up at 4-4 and took a 6-4 lead in the seventh on a two run homer from Wes Meadows.
The Polar Bears cut the Otterbein lead to 6-5 in the eighth, on a RBI single from Belliveau.
Otterbein put the game away in the ninth with four more runs, making it a 10-5 score.
LaMarca led ONU, by going 3-for-5 with a RBI and run scored.
Freshman Zach Maier took the loss and is now 0-2 on the year, whole Adam Collier picked up the win and is 6-1.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Monday when it hosts Bluffton in a single nine inning game at 4 pm.
