FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Polar Bear baseball team suffered another setback Thursday morning with an 8-2 loss to Wheaton (Ill.) at the Terry Park at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Ohio Northern falls to 3-4 overall, while the Thunder improves to 5-3.
Junior Cory Martin was one of four players to go 1-for-4, but he drove in the team's only two runs. Seniors Josh Murphy and Matt Hampshire, and freshman Dan Belliveau also got a hit.
Senior Cody Fisher took the loss; he allowed 10 hits and five runs in 5.1 innings.
Northern took its only lead of the game in the first, when Martin singled to center field to bring in Murphy from third and Belliveau from second.
Wheaton responded with three runs in the third inning, followed by two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings and one more in the eighth.
ONU closes out its spring trip Saturday morning when it faces Thiel (Pa.) at 9 a.m.
