MARIETTA — Despite a two-hitter by sophomore pitcher Austin Price (Tiffin/Columbian), the Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games to No. 3 Marietta at Don Schaly Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Marietta won by scores of 1-0 and 17-3 to improve to 19-2 (4-0 OAC), while ONU drops to 14-9 (1-5 OAC).
In the opener, Price tossed a complete game two-hitter by allowing one earned run and one walk. He added three strikeouts over 6.0 innings, but still picked up the loss to fall to 3-3.
ONU had runners on first and second with nobody out in the top of the fifth, but Marietta forced a fielder's choice and double play to end the threat.
In the bottom of the inning, Marietta utilized a double, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly to plate the only run of the game.
For the Pioneers, Mark Williams (3-1) went 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven, while Kyle Lindquist tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to pick up his eighth save.
Sophomore Kevin Obarski (Powell/Bishop Watterson) went 1-for-1, also adding a walk and sacrifice bunt for ONU.
Marietta dominated the nightcap from the onset, scoring at least one run every inning, including two runs in the second and third innings, four runs in the fourth, and five runs in the eighth.
Junior Eric Yunker (Holland/Toledo Christian) finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored.
Northern will look to rebound Tuesday, as the Polar Bears host Wittenberg in a single non-conference game at 4 p.m.
