ADA — Senior Adam Yunker and junior Eric Yunker combined to go 8-for-14 with seven RBIs and six runs to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 14-1, 8-3 doubleheader sweep of Ohio State-Lima at Wander Field Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Barons fall to 0-6.
Adam Yunker finished the day 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases, while Eric Yunker went 4-for-9 with five RBIs and two runs.
Sophomore Shane Parks also picked up his fourth save of the season in the second game, throwing 2.0 perfect innings, striking out two, to increase his streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 15.0.
In the opener, ten Polar Bears recorded hits, including six players who had multiple-hit games.
ONU jumped out of the gate with six runs in the bottom of the first, an inning highlighted by a two-run double by junior Matt Hampshire.
The offense didn't let up, adding eight more runs in the fourth through sixth innings.
Sophomore Austin Price picked up the victory to improve to 3-1, allowing one unearned run and three hits over 5.0 innings.
Hampshire, freshman Brian Thomas, sophomore Kevin Obarski and senior Erik Stegman each added two hits, as well.
In Game 2, Adam Yunker walked and scored on an RBI groundout by Eric Yunker after stealing second and third.
After OSU-Lima scored three straight runs to take a 3-1 lead, the Polar Bear offense broke through for five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Stegman and Adam Yunker walked to start off the inning. After a Brian Thomas single, Eric Yunker cleared the bases with a two-run single, with Thomas scoring on a Baron error.
After another Baron error scored Yunker, Obarski eventually drove in Hampshire with a sacrifice fly to give ONU a 6-3 lead.
The Polar Bears added two more insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI double by sophomore Tom Walton and another run scoring on a wild pitch.
Justin Good improved to 3-1 by tossing 5.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned), striking out seven, before Parks shut the door with his two perfect innings.
Adam Yunker now has 107 career hits, good for 39th-best in ONU history, while Hampshire has 106, 40th-most.
ONU will host Goshen (Ind.) at Wander Field on Tuesday at 2 pm before beginning the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule at Capital on Saturday.
